Author Christopher Wimmer presents his book on the history of the council movement, spanning from the Paris Commune to modern-day Rojava more info
Christopher Wimmer presents his book, "Alles muss man selber machen. Zur Geschichte der Rätebewegung, von der Pariser Kommune bis Rojava" (Everything must be done by oneself. On the history of the council movement, from the Paris Commune to Rojava). In this presentation, Wimmer uses vivid scenes to describe how council movements arise, how they function, and the reasons they often fail. Using various historical examples—such as the streets of Paris in 1871, the factories of Petrograd in 1917, the jungles of Chiapas, and the villages of Northern Syria—he illustrates how people have self-managed schools and hospitals, made collective decisions, distributed goods, and resolved conflicts without a central government or state. The book aims to bring history to life through stories of courage, hope, and defeat, questioning what modern society can learn from these movements to build a truly self-managed and democratic everyday life. The event specifically highlights the "Autonomous Self-Administration of North and East Syria" (AANES) as a contemporary example. Given the current military pressure on the AANES by the Syrian transitional government, the evening will also serve as an opportunity to discuss current developments in Syria. Wimmer, who previously authored "Land der Utopie?" about Rojava, will lead the discussion on these recent events.

A cinematic reflection on memory and loss in Gaza, based on archival footage from 2001 more info
This film, directed by Kamal Aljafari, is a cinematic reflection on memory, loss, and the passage of time. The project originated when Aljafari discovered three MiniDV tapes in his archive documenting life in Gaza in 2001. What began as a search for a prison acquaintance from 1989 evolved into an unexpected road trip from northern to southern Gaza, guided by a local man named Hasan, whose current fate remains unknown. The camera captures fleeting moments of everyday life—fragments of a reality that has since been irrevocably altered. Aljafari describes the film as a tribute to Gaza and its people, a work about catastrophe and 'poetry that resists'.

But we’ve got provisions, we’ve got space, and we’ve got a rig that could probably pass for a seismological measuring device. Pack your sturdy shoes. We are leaving civilization.

This event marks the opening night of the 11th edition of "HIER=JETZT", a prominent platform for contemporary dance in Munich. Originally founded in 2016 as an "Artist for Artist" initiative by Birgitta Trommler and Johanna Richter, the platform serves as a vital support system for young choreographers and dancers. This year’s edition is specifically dedicated to the memory of Birgitta Trommler, honoring her passion and commitment to the independent dance scene. The opening night features the winners of the 2025 Audience Award, Alonso Núñez Quirós (Costa Rica) and Dalila di Gennaro (Italy). They will present a further developed and expanded version of their piece "narrative of an echo", which was refined through a working scholarship. The work explores identity as a dynamic and evolving construct, inspired by the "Ship of Theseus" paradox—questioning if a body remains the same after all its parts have been replaced. The evening follows a moderated discourse format, providing the audience with insights into the concept and working methods of the choreographic team before the performance itself.
Ansa Sauermann, with three albums and 40 songs released since 2014, is currently recording their fourth album "Gehts Noch," set for a March 2026 release. The new album will feature a higher tempo, more electric guitars, and a shift from melancholic dreaminess to angry bewilderment, addressing contemporary issues with pointed lyrics more info
The first single 'Foto' was released in 2014 on the EP of the same name. Since then, Ansa Sauermann has released three albums and 40 songs. In 2017 'Weisse Liebe', in 2020 'Trümmerlotte' and finally in 2023 'Du kriegst was du brauchst'. Before the fourth record is released, the five Dresden natives are on the road again to present all twelve songs from the upcoming album live. Ansa is currently in the middle of recording the fourth album 'Gehts Noch', which is scheduled for release in March 2026. After the last album was characterized by softer tones, Ansa is significantly increasing the tempo on the upcoming album. The previously dominant acoustic guitar is increasingly being swapped for electric guitars, and melancholic dreaminess is giving way to angry bewilderment. The point is not to point fingers at others, but rather to uncomfortably and pointedly place them in the wounds of our time. But as always with Ansa Sauermann, romance is not neglected, giving us support and confidence in times of increasing uncertainty and division. Because what else is worth fighting for and keeping hope alive, if not for love?

In their new production, Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke and Serhat 'Saïd' Perhat explore the questions: What happens when one develops a perception for this omnipresent breathing? Which elements are overlooked in the flow of things? And how can we stop the floods of events to make new things visible? Following their successful dance theater piece 'Grey,' they embark with their ensemble on a research journey of individual and collective tides. Urban dance meets experimental forms; organic movement lines meet hard, acrobatic elements. From different dance contexts, the bodies of the performers become their own resonance spaces, with which the group creates a flow of movement. This follows sometimes personal transformations, sometimes societal dynamics. The individual dancers sometimes swim against the current or let themselves be carried by it.

Open mics for Munich's young poets! A Poetry Slam is the poetry competition of our time – lively, direct and full of emotion more info
Here, poetry becomes an experience and a platform for everyone who dares to share their texts with the world. The audience is right in the middle of it, not just watching, and decides the outcome of the evening with their applause. Under the artistic direction of Munich's SlamMaster Ko Bylanzky, the U20 Poetry Slam at the Münchner Volkstheater has long become a success story. Here, Munich's young slam talent is in the spotlight: young people up to 20 years old present their own texts – whether poems, stories, or performances, whether serious, humorous, personal, or socially critical. Shouting, whispering, howling, panting, whistling, rapping – everything is allowed. The tools: language, voice, and body. The competition quickly takes a backseat, as respect, togetherness, and a shared passion for words are more important. Accompanied by Ko Bylanzky and a guest moderator, experienced slam stars as special guests provide additional energy on stage. So: sharpen your pencils, get ready – it's going to be poetic! Registration via email to u20slam@muenchner-volkstheater.de

A dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat, exploring individual and collective rhythms through urban dance and experimental forms more info
"Tide" is a dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke and Serhat "Saïd" Perhat. The performance explores the rhythm of breathing, not only in humans but in everything, from nature to the tides of civilization. It questions what happens when one develops a perception for this omnipresent breathing, what elements are overlooked in the flow of things, and how to stop the floods of events to make new things visible. Following their successful dance theater piece "Grey," the creators and their ensemble embark on a research journey into individual and collective tides. The piece combines urban dance with experimental forms, and organic movement lines with hard, acrobatic elements. Dancers' bodies become resonance spaces, creating a movement flow that follows personal transformations and societal dynamics, with individuals either swimming against the current or being carried by it.

This approach allows for rapid progress and a fresh perspective on the white marble sculptures of the Glyptothek. The use of a limited color palette helps participants better understand forms, organize volume, and create lively, non-decorative drawings. The course is designed for both beginners and advanced students who wish to explore classical subjects in a contemporary way. A 30-minute break is scheduled at the Glyptothek's café during the session.

Monthati Masebe in conversation about how composing becomes a living archive when language fades – and her upcoming opera Isithunzi at the Munich Biennale more info
Colonial sound hierarchies and Western archiving practices have long determined which instruments are preserved and which are allowed to disappear. But what is lost when rhythms, melodies and tonal systems rooted in indigenous cultures fall silent? Inspired by the knowledge that more than 600 indigenous instruments are played in South Africa alone, Monthati Masebe – sound artist, composer and healer – embarks on a sonic act of preservation. In dealing with the archives of this rich tradition, she works with voice, overtones, bends, glissandi and fluctuating pitches, with ethereal vocalizations and throat singing that expand and shift normative ideas of "correct" singing. When language fades, music also changes. Composing becomes a living archive: a space for resonance, memory and cultural knowledge beyond written tradition. At Habibi Kiosk, we come together for an encounter with this practice and for a conversation with Monthati Masebe about archiving, sound and the urgencies that shape her artistic work today. Monthati Masebe's opera Isithunzi will be presented at the Munich Biennale. Presented in cooperation with the Munich Biennale.

A solo piano series by Einstein Kultur more info
In the 'Einstein's Piano' series, a man who holds a doctorate in mathematics takes a seat at the grand piano. Is this noticeable in his music? Perhaps here and there. However, Benedikt Jahnel refrains from using formulas and calculations when playing. His feel also ensures the perfect mix of timbres, the optimal dose of poetry, and strong arcs of tension. As the pianist of the cult quartet max.bab, Benedikt Jahnel gained international fame. He also made a significant contribution to the sound of the formation Cyminology, maintained a magnificent trio of his own, founded the Kaktus 6tett, and ran a double quartet with saxophonist Peter Ehwald. For the newly freed spots, we will plant site-adapted, native wild perennials provided by the perennial garden as a repair kit. On-site, we will consider how the seedlings can be protected from careless passers-by. If the sign is not yet perfectly placed, we will reposition it clearly visible. A dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat, exploring individual and collective rhythms through urban dance and experimental forms more info
"Tide" is a dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat. The piece combines urban dance with experimental forms, organic movement lines with hard, acrobatic elements. Dancers from different contexts become their own resonance spaces, creating a flow of movement that follows personal transformations and societal dynamics. The individual dancers either swim against the current or let themselves be carried by it.

"Tide" is a dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat. The performance explores the rhythm of breathing, not only in humans but in everything, like the ebb and flow of waves. It delves into questions about perceiving this omnipresent rhythm, what elements are overlooked in the current of things, and how to halt the floods of events to reveal something new. Following their successful dance theater piece "Grey," Zühlke and Perhat, along with their ensemble, embark on a research journey into individual and collective tides. Urban dance meets experimental forms; organic movement lines meet hard, acrobatic elements. The performers' bodies, from various dance contexts, become resonant spaces through which the group creates a flow of movement. This flow sometimes follows personal transformations, sometimes societal dynamics, with individual dancers either swimming against the current or letting themselves be carried by it.
